Covid has meant that practicing and dancing out has been restricted. In the meantime Solway Morris has extended its repertoire of Cotswold Morris jigs and is ready to perform these where this is possible under the current circumstances.
In January 2019 the members of Solway Morris reviewed their physical capabilities to continue to perform mainly as a Morris dance side with the occasional mummers plays and felt that as several key members had recently encountered surgical disabilities, it was no longer viable to base the performances on dance.
Solway Morris have changed their repertoire to performing Mummers Plays with singular dancing (jigs) intertwined with the seasonal and varied plays, which also include audience participation in songs and music.
Solway Morris are available to teach Morris Dancing to schools, youth groups, and any other groups or persons wishing to learn this truly English Folk tradition, the earliest record dating back to the Tudors. If you have a budding ambition to act but feel a little shy performing a mummers play and wearing a disguise, with ad-libbing, should you forget the plot, appeals to you then contact Solway Morris for further information.
